Shortbridge

The animation demonstrates an ICS Shortbridge configuration being introduced into a tunnel, utilising its whole-unit mobility capability. The Shortbridge is then used to evacuate the material from the face of the tunnel, where it accepts material continually from the roadheader, where it then transfers the material to a point approximately 70 metres toward the tunnel entrance. This is the point where the trucks are charged by the ICS Shortbridge.

The small footprint of the Shortbridge enables the support equipment to carry out their drilling, bolting and shotcreting activities without interrupting the flow of material to the trucks. Normally, there is a conflict between the trucks and the support equipment in that there is insufficient room for both. Therefore, one set of equipment cannot work while the other is working, creating delays in production as each waits for each other. The use of the Shortbridge in the manner depicted alleviates this problem.

Additionally, the Shortbridge can be introduced to or removed from the tunnel relatively swiftly and does not require any fundamental change in equipment or methods. If for some reason it is deemed necessary to discontinue its use, the tunnel operations can return to their original state within hours.
